Shaggy INKCAPS
The shaggy inkcap (Coprinus comatus ) is an interesting fungi that undergoes a unique process known as deliquescence. To deliquesce is to liquefy. The mushroom absorbs moisture from the environment, triggering hydrolytic enzymes to auto-digest itself. As the inkcap liquefies and dissolves, the tightly packed gills separate and peel back, allowing spores to float into the air. The resulting black-brown βinkβ can be used for writing and painting.
